WWE Superstars Naomi and Jimmy Uso recently appeared on Stephanie McMahon's podcast "What's Your Story?" In a bonus episode, the couple shared their reactions to the news of Naomi's pregnancy.
When Stephanie McMahon asked Naomi how she found out, she replied that she had started to feel symptoms but wasn't thinking about pregnancy due to her past fertility issues.
"I found out on a Sunday while on the road in my hotel room," she said. "I had been feeling a little different and weird, and I just wanted to take a test to rule out pregnancy. I wasn't thinking about it because I've had a long journey with fertility issues, so I didn't think it was really possible."
Naomi revealed that in the past, she had an oophorectomy and a myomectomy, which are the removal of the right ovary and fibroids, respectively.
"You have to understand the whole picture and the medical history," she added. "I've talked about it briefly, but I haven't really gone into detail. Earlier in our relationship, probably before I debuted as a Funkadactyl, I had an oophorectomy, which is the removal of my right ovary. In 2020, we went through another major surgery, a myomectomy. That's the removal of fibroids. I had tons, and big ones, removed from my uterus."
The myomectomy was supposed to last only a couple of hours but lasted six hours because the surgery was more intense than what the doctors had estimated.
“I was sitting there losing my brain. And this is about the time where the pandemic was happening. So, no one's coming out to talk to you. It was just us [Jimmy and Naomi] in the hospital. I remember, too, this was during the Thunderdome. My last match was with Sasha and Bailey in a 'Beat the Clock' match. I didn't tell anybody. I told them what I was going to do, but I was gone for six months after that. And it also left a lot of scar tissue, so that also affected my ability. On top of being older, 37 now, and on top of only having one ovary, we thought for sure that naturally, I couldn't [conceive] anymore.”
However, after receiving the good news, Naomi experienced a mix of emotions: she was excited, nervous, and scared. She was also burdened about having to tell her bosses at work, as she was the WWE Women's World Champion at the time. Yet, after seeing her baby's heartbeat, all her stress and worry vanished.
"I saw the heartbeat, and everything that I was stressing and worried about in that moment just went away. I knew that nothing ahead of me was more important than that [being with the baby] now. So I just want to get through this healthily because I am high-risk and I'm going to have to get checkups more often, but everything is looking good,” Naomi concluded.
With Naomi on maternity leave, it remains to be seen what storyline WWE will create to crown a new Women’s Champion.
