Crystal Palace remains the only unbeaten team in the 2025-26 Premier League season as the reigning FA Cup champions defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Despite Alexander Isak’s first start for Liverpool, Oliver Glasner’s men took charge of the match pretty early as Ismaila Sarr slotted the ball in the back of the net from a corner routine to give his team a precious lead against the league leaders.
A minute later, Allison denied Yeremy Pino with a world-class save to ensure his side remains in the hunt for the equalizer.
In the second half, the in-form Federico Chiesa came off the bench to bring things to parity for Arne Slot’s men, but a stoppage-time goal from Eddie Nketiah ended the Reds’ winning start to the Premier League season.
After the match, Nketiah was pretty upbeat about his side’s performance and said, “I think obviously there aren't many teams that can create that much against Liverpool. Credit to us, I think we probably deserved the three points. So happy to be able to help and contribute.”
Despite losing key creator and midfield ball carrier Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer transfer window, the Eagles haven’t shown any signs of slowing down or lacking a creative force, either in the middle of the park or in the attacking third.
The former Arsenal striker exclaimed, “I think we're just hard to play against. We've got a nice resilient group, obviously work together, and we've got threats and talent up front in the midfield, so we know we're going to hurt any team we play against. Today, it all clicked for us, and thankfully, we're able to get three points.”
When asked about his role in the Crystal Palace squad and how the players coming off the bench are feeling in the Eagles’ squad, Nketiah exclaimed, “Obviously, everyone's fighting for positions, we all want to play, and everybody wants to contribute. So if I get 5, 10, 15, or 90 (minutes), I'm always going to try to contribute and give the best for the team.”
Nketiah refused to think about the fact that Palace remained the only unbeaten side in the season and said, “Yeah, we're just going to take it one game at a time. Obviously, like I said, we've got a really good group that achieved a lot last season and started really well this season. So we want to keep pushing and want to try to bring more success to this club.”
Crystal Palace will now travel to Merseyside next weekend to face Everton. Liverpool would once again travel to London as they face Chelsea in the late kick-off next Saturday before the teams disband for the international break.
