Manchester United broke Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the 2025-26 Premier League season with a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro at Old Trafford. With three points in the bag, United climbed to the top half of the points table and could remain in the Top 10 if certain results go their way on Sunday.
In his 200th Premier League appearance for Manchester United, skipper Fernandes scored his 100th goal for the Red Devils in all competitions with a smart finish. In the 37th minute, Casemiro doubled his side’s lead, and Trevor Chalobah reduced the deficit in the 80th minute, but the Blues lacked the firepower to equalize and bring parity to the proceedings.
When Bruno was asked if he is proud of both his achievements and leading United to victory, the Manchester United skipper said, “Obviously, very proud of that. Two massive milestones for me. Not something that I was aiming for when I came to the club. I don’t aim at anything, I just aim to play the next game and the next game and the next game, because I just want to enjoy as much as I can playing for this club, playing football. So, I will do that until the end of my career. My aim will always be to be ready for what’s coming next and not think too far ahead.”
When asked if this was his most important goal for United so far, Bruno quipped, “Every goal is important. It's a great moment for me to reach this milestone at such a prestigious club; I won't hide that. If I can score more goals to help the team, that's what matters most.”
While a certain faction of Manchester United fans has been asking for a change in the dugout, many fans and football pundits have noticed that the Red Devils are playing much better compared to last season and should improve more once the summer signings settle in.
Talking about the same, Fernandes said, “We want to perform well, but at the end of the day, it's the points that count. We haven't been getting the points we wanted. At the end of the game, we were very strong in defending our box and putting them in positions of crossing.”
Whenever the Red of Manchester clashes with the Blue of London, the fans are always in for an exhilarating clash as emotions often get the best of some players in high-stakes fixtures. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off in the 4th minute for a late challenge on Bryan Mbeumo, and Casemiro was also sent off for procuring two yellow cards at the brink of the first-half whistle.
Bruno quipped, “We got the (Sanchez) red card because our mentality was to start the game strong. The players have to run behind whenever Ben (Sesko) goes for the ball, and that's what Bryan (Mbeumo) did.”
He concluded, "The Casemiro red card didn't change anything. We wanted to close the middle. Without Delap, who makes the runs for the team, Joao Pedro wants to link up. We gave them the chance to go down the side and then close them with our wing-backs. Our centre-backs were very good in defending the box."
